Creation and Help

IN THE BEGINNING, GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH – Genesis 1:1

I LIFT UP MY EYES TO THE HILLS. FROM WHERE DOES MY HELP COME FROM? MY HELP COMES FROM THE LORD, WHO MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH. – Psalm 121:1-2

As Christians we can find immense hope and comfort in knowing that the same God who flung stars into space, is also the source of our help.

In fact the passage from the Psalms teaches us, that as we look at creation we can be reminded that the creator of the hills, the creator of the heavens, is also the same Person who will provide our help.

When we are in need, when life gets difficult, when trials and hardships come, may the earth and stars be reminders to us of His power to save.

It might be worth asking God to attune your eyes, so that you can see beyond the creation around you. See beyond the trees, hills and stars, and see God the creator of them, the source of our help.

The writer of Romans says that given that God did not spare His own son, why on earth would we expect Him to neglect us and not give us all things (Romans 8:32). Paul reminds the Church in Philippi that they are not to be anxious but instead pray (Philippians 4:6). But perhaps where we see the greatest link between the evidence of creation pointing to God’s provision of help to us is found in Jesus’ teaching.

He says “look at the birds”, “look at the flowers”! Can you not see how “your Heavenly Father feeds them”, how He clothes them?! How much more will He not feed you, will He not clothe you (Matthew 6:25-34)?!

In creation we can see the power of God to truly provide for our every need.
