In my humanity and weakness, I strive to be a man after God’s own heart then to lead, labour, inspire and encourage others to be the same. You can read about my Life Purpose here.
This blog is part of my attempt to live this calling out, to talk about my experiences and share what I’m learning along the way. I hope that by reading along you are inspired and encouraged to pursue God’s heart all the more.
My name is Paul and I live in Birmingham UK, with my wife of 5+ years! I graduated summer 2016 with a History degree and I am just starting my fourth year working for Cancer Research UK on Clinical Trials. Along the way I’ve worked closely alongside the Navigators UK who’s calling is: To advance the gospel of Jesus and his kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of labourers living and discipling among the lost.
I enjoy reading books, watching films, playing old video games and meeting with friends. I prefer Starbucks to Costa, Pizza Hut to Domino’s, and films to tv shows. I grew up watching Smallville, then geared into 24 with Jack Bauer. Along the way I’ve enjoyed Prison Break/ing Bad, Suits and the Walking Dead franchise. My favourite movies include: Star Wars 1-6 & Rogue One, Rocky (all of them!), Interstellar and anything with Tom Cruise, Hanks or Hardy, Matt Damon or Harrison Ford.
My faith is indebted not only to Jesus who keeps me going every day and reveals to me His beauty in every area of life, but also to missionaries and a cohort of wise, relational, Jesus-loving, weakness-boasting, courage-giving, perspective-broadening, life-modelling, leaders and mentors who have shown me grace, direction and empowerment through their time, prayers and pursuit of God! It is these people who inspire me to inspire others.
I also have a blog with my brother, recording our office experiences (he works in finance and I’m in research so there’s some room for comparison, jokes and our INTJ personalities to react to social conventions). We’re not that good at regularly posting there though.
I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I am resilient and persistent. I wouldn’t describe my faith as precise, elegant or delicate. And my solution to most discipleship problems, is getting people in the word, in prayer, in church and in mission. I meet with God every morning, and try to listen to His voice throughout the day.
At the moment, I can’t get enough of these verses: “He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.”
Christ’s love compels me!
